It doesn’t matter what kind of business you work for, good customer service is always key.
Even if your job isn’t in sales, and it isn’t in your job description to provide good service to clients, you should maintain that mindset.
You represent the business that you work for, at all times, so act accordingly! When I am out in the world, and off the clock, I still represent my business and know that the person I meet may become a customer. This approach works, because making a good first impression on someone will increase the chances of them remembering you when the time comes. I am an HVAC tech and wear that hat all day every day, metaphorically speaking. If someone has a question about their air conditioner ,I answer it happily. If they want directions, I will give them direction written down on the back of one of my business cards. If someone doesn’t need HVAC help today, they may still need it in the future and I want them to think of me. Building word of mouth takes a long time, especially with something like an HVAC business because if you do your job well people don’t need you again for a long time. If I fix your AC once, I will stand behind my work and won’t charge you again if it breaks down. This is the sort of word of mouth that will get me a lot of HVAC business over time, but it does take a lot of time. So if you need HVAC work, give me a call!
