Staying at my Aunt’s is always quite the experience! Her home is honestly large and old, and has just as several quirks as my Aunt does.
Last summer time I stayed to visit her for a few weeks.
It quickly turned into a ”laboring vacation”. I helped her make a lot of repairs and adjustments to her home. She is a funny lady, but since the home is so large and she can not walk too well, most of the rooms haven’t even been entered in months! It turns out that squirrels had gotten into the ductwork and built a nest. I have no experience with Heating, Ventilation, and A/C systems or ductwork, but this issue had nothing to do with the equipment. It was about the critters! Of course, I had about as much understanding about squirrels as I do cooling systems, but with the pets I felt I could lure out. I tried luring them out of the ductwork with treats, but that did not work. I even tried using rodent traps, which I put inside all of the air vents, but the squirrels outfoxed them. Squirrels are much smarter than rats, because they were not coming out of the air ducts no matter what! I spent many weeks chasing squirrels through air ducts, and I don’t know if I ever got rid of one. I decided to just seal off those air vents and ducts, and check back in a month or to see if the squirrels died.
