Summer vacations with the kids, though, just don’t cut it, in my opinion.
Have you ever made a trip to the beach during the fall? As someone who lives in the south where we have a super long coastline, I can tell you that autumn is a wonderful time to visit the shore. It’s not the ideal time for swimming, of course, but it is still quite a nice feeling to be at the beach when it is practically empty and God has turned off the heating for a little while. Generally speaking, it is hot for the vast majority of the time down here in the south, and you couldn’t pay me good money to step foot outside air conditioning in the summer months. I have no desire to go to the beach or anywhere else that is outside the range of a good cooling system for most of the year. I am always surprised when the tourist bureaus insist that everyone should come to Florida to experience the great outdoors. Ummm…not so much. In the fall and winter, yes, it is a good time to come because you will not melt without the a/c. Summer vacations with the kids, though, just don’t cut it, in my opinion. The only place you can go that will be cool enough is the beach, but it is so darn crowded all the time. If you come in the fall, which is considered “the season,” you can have a better adventure outdoors. Most of us locals are finally enjoying life with open windows and a thermostat that is set to “off” and the central air conditioning having a bit of a break.
