I started reading the reports about the heating costs going through the roof this winter back in the early fall.
This coincided with watching the gas prices go through the roof as well.
So it dawned on me that this might be the year for me to actually get off my butt and do something. I tend to enjoy just kicking back on fall weekends in the HVAC comfort of my living room with football. That could be the reason why I’ve never really done any sort of proper winter prep on my house forever. That’s such a poor excuse to spend money on HVAC heating that I didn’t have to spend. Being lazy and watching football is no excuse for not getting the house sealed up. With those forecasts of spiking heating costs for this winter, I got out of the HVAC comfort of my living room and got busy. This effort was helped a great deal when I happened to run across an instant read thermal temperature gun. Can’t remember why or where I got it but man, it really came in handy prepping the house for winter. I used the temp gun to find all the places in and outside my home that were HVAC heating leaks. It was a rude awakening as I found spot after spot that had to be sealed up. But now, the house is sealed up tight and I should be getting our first full month of heating on our next utility bill. I’m excited to see what sort of savings we are in for. I’m betting that there will be a significant slash in HVAC heating costs due to my efforts getting the house prepared for winter.
