I think I made the wrong career choice.

When I was growing up, I wanted to be just like my dad. My dad was the owner of the local HVAC company. He was also the best HVAC HVAC technician in the state. No matter what time of day or night, if one of his customers called with an emergency heating or air conditioning problem, he was there. He often told us that it didn’t matter if he was the owner of the HVAC company or just one of the technicians, he was there to work. He was not just the owner, but he was an HVAC technician first. I so admired my dad and his dedication that I wanted to be an HVAC technician just like him. When I graduated high school, the first thing I did was sign up to be a student at the local community college. After graduation, I got an apprenticeship in one of the local HVAC companies. I worked for them for a year before deciding I wanted to work for my father. To me, being a HVAC technician was just a job. I went to work, I did my job well, but I wasn’t happy. I felt there was something else out there for me. For the next year, I did nothing but search my heart to find what it was that I needed to make me happy in my career. It was hard to tell my dad that I no longer wanted to work for him, but I wanted to go back to school. Something inside me said that repairing heating and air conditioning systems was not enough. I wanted to be able to design and build HVAC systems that were going to be good for the environment for many years to come.
