The squirrels built a colony in my aunt’s Heating and A/C system

Squirrels are more intelligent than rats, apparently

Staying at our Aunty’s beach house was an interesting experience. The beach house is very big and very old, and has just as many quirks as our Aunt does! This past Spring I decided to visit with her for a few weeks. The visit turned into a ”really working vacation”. She needed help to make a lot of repairs and adjustments to her place. She is the sweetest woman! The place is so big and she is in a wheelchair, most of the rooms haven’t even been cleaned in months. Squirrels had gotten into the ductwork at some point, and built a little colony. I’m no expert when it comes to Heating & A/C systems or ductwork. My aunt’s issue didn’t have anything to do with the equipment, it was all about the critters! Of course, I had about as much knowledge about squirrels as I do air conditionings. However with the critters I felt I could help her out. I tried getting them to come out of the ductwork with treats, however that did not work! Next I tried using traps. I put inside all of the air vents, however the squirrels either outfoxed the traps or outmuscled them. Squirrels are more intelligent than rats, apparently. They were not coming out of the ductworks no matter what! I must have spent a while chasing squirrels through ductworks, and I don’t think I ever got rid of one of them. I decided to just seal off those air vents and ducts, and check back in the year to see if the squirrels are gone.
