Watching son’s dog causes air conditioner problems

When my son and his wife went on a ten-day vacation, they asked if I would take their dog. He’s an older dog and very easy to care for, so I didn’t mind. I brought him home with me and set up his bed, food bowl and water dish. I bought him some treats and toys. I didn’t expect how badly he sheds. There was fur everywhere. The dog liked to nap on my bed, so there was pet hair all over my comforter and pillows. My rugs, furniture and even my clean laundry was covered in fur. By the time the dog went back to my son and his wife, I was really anxious to clean my house. I laundered all of the sheets, cleaned under and behind all the furniture and vacuumed, swept and mopped every floor. I did my best to eliminate every sign of the dog’s presence. A little over two weeks later, I started to have some issues with my air conditioner. When I checked the air filter, I was not happy to see it completely clogged with fur. It hadn’t occurred to me that the pet hair and dander also got inside the heating and cooling system. I knew that I needed to hire a professional to provide a thorough cleaning of the equipment immediately. I set up an appointment and explained my concerns. I wanted the air conditioner, furnace and ductwork thoroughly inspected to prevent restricted airflow, diminished efficiency and potential malfunction. The process took awhile but was definitely necessary. The technician found a great deal of contamination within the system. I blame the dog. He ended up costing me quite a bit of time and money.
